All the Australian continent is known for its opal resources and beautiful stones extracted from its mines. Above all, one town stands out to be the source of Olympic Australis Opal. Coober Pedy settles as a little town quick after the lucky discovery of ‘Surface Opal Nobbies’ made by a young miner in its search for gold. Since the first mining 9th February 1915 many opal fields have been located surrounding Coober Pedy.
This town has other particular and interesting thing to show to visitors. I am referring to the population’s inexpensive underground homes. These curios homes are called ‘dugouts’ and one might think that are quite practical to live in if are able to keep all year constant temperature of 25 degrees Celsius.
This productive town has an aboriginal name that means ‘White man’s burrow’…suggestive, isn’t it?
