A 478 carat diamond found in the state of Lesotho, in South Africa, could become the biggest round cutKor gemstone, surpassing even the famous Koh-i-Noor, part of the British Royal Crown, according to studies quoted by BBC.
According to BBC, the diamond could weigh after cutting over 150 carats, meaning the biggest round cut diamond. It weights more than the round Koh-i-Noor diamond, weighting 105 carats.
Thus, the Lesotho diamond, which still doesn’t have a name, could become the biggest round cut diamond and could be sold for tens of millions of dollars. It currently belongs to the international company Gem Diamonds.
After prior examinations it is said that it has the potential of being the stone with the biggest clarity and the best color, according to CEO Clifford Elphick.
Yet still it isn’t the biggest diamond in the world. The Cullinan diamond was discovered in 1905, and had 3,106 carats uncut. It became a teardrop shaped diamond wieghing 530 carats, called Great Star of Africa.
