Incredible discovery coming from L.A. has brought a smile upon every gemstone lover. It makes one wonder, will I ever have a piece of that, and by that i mean a giant Brazilian emerald. Well until I get my hands even a kilometer close to it, there are already some strong claimers.

The Bahia emerald is thought to be the second biggest gemstone of this kind ever found. It weighs 850 pounds and is worth around $370 million dollars. It is currently help by the LAPD, since the true owner has not been establish.

The 180,000 carat emerald was first discovered in 2001 in Brazil and it was later on transported to US. Until September it was deposited in a secure vault for protection in LA county. The dispute of the owner involves the so called owner, a company in charge to sell the stone and the buyer. The situation is unclear and police suspects the robbery was possible with the falsification of the ownership papers. We’ll let you know when we find out more on this matter.

Another thing you should know is that the largest cut emerald gem is called the Mogul Emerald and was found in 1965. It weighs 217.80 carats and is 10cm tall.
